Newborn Storytelling Sessions

The earliest days, just as they are

The newborn stage is fleeting, hazy, and deeply emotional.
Days blur together, routines are still forming, and everything feels tender and new.

My newborn sessions are about documenting this season honestly and gently, without pressure or expectation. There’s no posing your baby into uncomfortable positions, no rushing, and no need for everything to feel calm or controlled.

Instead, we focus on connection, closeness, and the quiet moments that often become the most meaningful with time.

What newborn sessions with me are like

Newborn sessions are baby-led, slow, and flexible.

We work entirely around your baby’s needs, with time for feeds, cuddles, changes, settling, and pauses whenever they’re needed. There’s no expectation for your baby to sleep, and no set agenda for how the session should unfold.

I’ll gently guide you when it’s helpful, but mostly I’ll step back and allow space for you to simply be together. Partners, siblings, and pets are always welcome — this is about documenting your family as it truly is.

Most parents tell me the session felt far calmer than they expected, even on days that felt a little chaotic.

When to book your newborn session

Newborn sessions are ideally photographed within the first few weeks after birth, while everything still feels beautifully new. That said, I don’t work to a strict age limit.

Babies arrive in their own time, and I always build flexibility into newborn bookings. If you’re unsure about timing or when to get in touch, you’re very welcome to reach out and talk it through — there’s no pressure to have it all figured out.

Newborn sessions usually take place in your home, where you and your baby are most comfortable.

I work with natural light and familiar surroundings, focusing on small, meaningful moments rather than perfectly styled spaces. Your home doesn’t need to be tidy or photo-ready — a small pocket of light is more than enough.

Comfort, warmth, and ease always come first.

What’s included & gallery delivery

Each newborn session includes:

  • a relaxed, baby-led storytelling session

  • a curated gallery of fully edited images

  • delivery within 2 - 4 weeks via a private online gallery

Your gallery is thoughtfully curated to tell the story of this chapter without overwhelming you. If, once you’ve viewed your images, you’d love to keep more moments, you’ll have the option to upgrade and unlock the full gallery.

There’s no pressure either way. Your included images are always complete and meaningful on their own.

Book your Newborn Session.

Newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your home and are always gentle and baby-led.

If your baby has already arrived, you can choose a suitable date below. If you’re still waiting, simply choose an estimated time and we can adjust once your baby is here.

If you’d like one consistent storyteller from pregnancy through to those early newborn days, you can also choose a Bump-to-Baby package, combining both maternity and newborn sessions.

This option is ideal if you value continuity and would like your images to flow naturally from anticipation to arrival. If you’ve already had a maternity session with me, this can be added later — there’s no need to decide everything upfront.

  • “I was really nervous about having a newborn shoot, especially with a grizzly baby and our dog, but Jo was so patient and calm throughout. She guided us gently and made the whole experience feel far more relaxed than we expected. The photos are natural, beautiful, and something we’ll truly cherish forever.”

Your Questions, Answered

  • That’s completely okay. Babies cry, feed, wriggle, and need comfort — all of that is expected. Sessions are always shaped around your baby, with no pressure for things to go a certain way.

  • That’s very normal in the newborn stage. You don’t need to hold anything together for the camera. We’ll work slowly and gently, meeting you exactly where you are.

  • No. You don’t need to tidy, plan outfits, or practise anything. I’ll guide you gently on the day and take care of the rest.

Ready when you are

If this approach feels right for you, I’d love to photograph this chapter for your family.

You’re welcome to get in touch to ask questions, talk through timing, or check availability. There’s no pressure and no expectation — just a gentle conversation to see if we’re the right fit.
